Green "boxman" (SoCal) This review is from: Remington RM1415A 14-Inch 8-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio) After 8 years my Remington Limb & Trim saw bit the dust today. This was my second Limb & Trim saw. The first one probably lasted over a dozen years. Overall they are good saws for the suburban homeowner for the money. They are very lightweight and this makes them fine for triming and cutting small trees. I have cut down trees and limbs up to 12" with these with no problem. Larger trees just take longer as you have to cut from both sides. Gas chain saws are faster, but this will do the job if you are patient. The saw is virtually maintenance free except for keeping the blade sharp, lubricated, and under the correct tension. For sharpening, you can use a chain saw file, or a Dremel tool with the correct chain saw grinder, which is much faster and easier. The chain oiler mechanism did leak on both saws so I never use it. I know other owners that have had the same problem. Instead, I keep an oil can handy and manually squirt oil on the blade after every few cuts to keep it lubricated. The other problem is the chain bar has to be adjusted to the correct tension so the chain is not either too tight or too loose. This can be a bit of a hassle, but is necessary on any chain saw. If too tight and used too long, you will burn out the brushes on the motor. If too loose, the chain will cut poorly and could even come out of the track, causing a nasty jam or even be dangerous. Overall this is a fine saw for the suburban homeowner that just wants to clean up their landscaping. If you live on an acreage or farm, or need wood for burning for heating you will want a bigger electric or gas chainsaw. But for everyone else this will do fine. I just went out today and bought a clearence display model 14" Remington ES1514AS Limb & Trim for $25 at Lowes to replace the one that just died. At this price if I only get a couple of years out of it, it is worth it. But based on past experience I expect I will get more than 5 years out of it. Was this review helpful to you? I have used mine for about 2 years and it has seen various differnt cuts. The largest being an old pine tree at the thickest diamater of 16". it is also good at trimming shrubs, and i think is best at trimming 3-6 inch diamater branches. The saw hasnt kicked back on me once, but that could be because its a pretty light duty saw. The negatives of this saw is like what the reviewer above has written, the oil lubricating container leaks, but it really isnt that big of a deal. This saw is great for the suburban homeowner, or for general handyman, for cleanup of small trees, bushes, or cutting 4*4's. however, i feel that this saw is overpriced on Amazon as i purchase mine for about $40 bucks at my local menards. This would be great for smaller limbs and branches and stores away easily. Buy it. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment

I found out that she was cutting fireplace logs with a circular saw and sent it to her right away. It's safer, light weight and easy to use (no mixing gas and oil, or yanking on a starter rope). It's too new to know how durable it will be, but unless she turns into a lumber jack it should do fine. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Also does the Job, August 27, 2011 This review is from: Remington RM1415A 14-Inch 8-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio) I've owned this saw for a few years and put many hours on it. Like the two reviews before mine, I use this saw for suburban home and have cut small branches and (very carefully) cut large limbs in excess of 16" <--- don't do this without learning the proper method and how to do it (i.e. risk it) safely. It has never kicked back, stalled, or failed on me and has worked just fine for every job. I've sharpened chains purchased for it a couple times, then toss them. If you're left handed, this chainsaw (and many others) is NOT for you. BIGGEST DOWNSIDE: That pesky oil leak! The chain oil container/mechanism leaks horribly, even when not in use. So I've oil leaks all over the floor and box that I store it in. You have to "use up" all the oil before storing it, even for just a few hours like overnight, otherwise you're in for a big mess. * It does require a simple wrench for adjustments. * It does tend to get leaves, bark, and twigs stuck inside the unit that is not easy to clean without removing a part. I usually just pull the annoyances out with a hooked pick. It has clearly been worth the $39 bucks I paid on sale. HOWEVER, a Commenter makes a very good point: the original Remington is no longer in business and a limited selection of parts is available. You may very well not have the ability to fix it if (when) it breaks, but Homelite at HD is different. I considered this a throw-away tool until I bought a nicer brand gas saw -- I still have not made that purchase and use this little electric one. Instead, I bought an extension/ladder one and an Gator Lopper. The Lopper is technically not needed if you own this saw, but it is MUCH safer and efficient when ground cutting small logs into 16" lengths for fireplace burning. You can grab the logs OFF the ground with the gator and it safely chews 'em up. You can NOT cut small logs directly on the ground with any regular chainsaw. Was this review helpful to you? Pohl "Ruth Pohl" (Nebraska) This review is from: Remington RM1415A 14-Inch 8-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio) This chain saw enabled me to cut up several large branches that fell during a storm. The saw was easy to use and cut very fast. I wish I had bought one years ago. Well worth the low price. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment

POWERHOUSE FOR THE PRICE !! JOB DONE !, February 26, 2012 By STONE A JUDLIN "cajun 2 step cut short?" (Thibodaux , LA) This review is from: Remington RM1415A 14-Inch 8-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio) We recently lost a Mimosa tree to a severe cold spell. It was probably 12 inches across at the base, and too big a job for my saber saw. I had cut all the limbs off and the unsightly remains looked like a bad sculpture of a 10 foot high, upside-down, chicken foot. It had to go. A tree removal company would have charged me a fortune, so I looked into a small electric chain saw. After reading several positive reviews, I decided to give the Remington 8 amp Electric Chain saw a try. The saw arrived shortly, well packaged. Put in some oil, plugged it in. And in less than 30 minutes, the dead tree turned into a stack of fire-wood. The saw costs less than $50 bucks, and now my unsightly stump is gone...and I get to keep the saw for another day. The powerful little booger laughed at that 12 inch girth and cut right through it in no time. I was amazed. You will be too. Wouldn't try to clear a forest with it; but for small jobs, it's a big bargain at a small price. I don't often write reviews, but this little gem deserves the kudos! Was this review helpful to you? Great little Chain Saw, January 31, 2012 This review is from: Remington RM1415A 14-Inch 8-Amp Electric Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio) recently had an ice storm. tore up three trees. started using my dads large chainsaw and about wore my self out, so i ordered this little baby, because the biggest limbs i had to cut thru were about 6 inches thick, but most were 3 to 4 inches thick and smaller. it weighs about 7lbs. it came fully assembled, just had to add oil. it worked great. it cleaned up my entire yard which amounted to two pick up trucks worth of firewood and branches. it was light and easy to use. would of gave it 5 stars but oil does leak from it when you leave it setting. this was described in the manual and other reviews. i just put a rag under it. very happy with it, guess now i have to learn how to sharpen chain saw teeth ( blades ).
