Re: Good helmet and does the job., October 21, 2010
By

I have been using this helmet for the past three days with my new pruner. I have a 7-1/4 head size and have had no issues with fit or adjustments.

Pros:

1. Fits well
2. Ear protections does not rub at all
3. Face shield is Metal coated in Nylon. (not enough to stop anything huge but will stop most).
4. Hearing protection cancels out noise very well.

Cons:

1. Face shield does not completely cover your chin. (so that you can look down and cut much easier 50/50 complaint)
2. Head band could use more for sweat but really isn't an issue.
3. Large safety glasses do not go behind your ears well. Use the smaller ones or get some good goggles.
4. Rain guard is a joke I threw it back in the box.

Truthfully all of the cons really are not that big of deal to me. I picked this up at Shoppers Supply for $45.88. You have to put it together but it isn't rocket science it is a protective helmet. Overall it was a great buy and it really does help with debris flying at you. It won't stop everything but it will stop the bigger stuff. Also always wear Safety goggles with this helmet. If you want your eyes protected wear eye protection. You want your face, head, and ears protected wear this thing.

thought I might not use it but it's great, February 8, 2011

Unless you're out in the wilderness, you're going to look a little foolish in this getup. So even when I bought it I wondered if I'd really use it or not. But... it really is a great product for anyone working around trees with powered equipment. The helmet adjusts easily. The hearing protection also adjusts and can flip out of the way. The face shield is maybe a little flimsy, but only to reduce weight. It is wire mesh and I think it's the best feature since it won't fog up or scratch like the plastic ones. I'm always careful when working around trees, but this helmet has already paid for itself in one head knock and several branch-whip-scratches avoided.

Comfortable, Well Designed, September 13, 2011

This review is from: Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System (Lawn & Patio)
Personal Protective Equipment is never convenient. It's usually bulky, annoying, and sometimes in the way, but this particular helmet makes it just a little bit more tolerable.

The face shield is mesh rather than plastic, keeping it easy to get air through, while still blocking chips, and can be easily shifted up to get out of the way when not working. The ear muffs are a nice tight fit (and hold the whole system nicely in place snugly), and are easy to snap up and rotate out of place when not cutting. The inner straps on the helmet are a nice canvas, so more comfortable than other helmets I've worn using plastic liner straps.

Having everything combined makes it easy to remember to use it all, and makes it quick to toss on. Protecting your eyes, ears, and head are important, and this helmet is a great way to do it.

Also meets:
ANSI S3.19 - 1974 (for the ear muffs)
ANSI Z89.1 - 2009 (for the helmet)

Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System, January 10, 2012
By

This review is from: Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System (Lawn & Patio)
As most others have commented the assembly instructions provided with the helmet are useless. I referred to on-line advise to assemble the helmet system and managed it more easily than I expected. Husqvarna really needs to improve their instructions. This is an excellent product and value. I did a lot of research and comparison shopping before choosing this product. Our local Stihl dealer sells their version for $64.99 (plus 6.25% sales tax) and I got this one for $42.99 plus free-shipping. The helment fits very well on my head and the ear protectors make a good sold seal and are easy to flip out of the way. Overall, this is an excellent product and I highly recommend it for the value and functionality.

Necessary protection, February 19, 2012
By
Charles Vekert "Chuck Vekert" (Highland, MD USA)

This review is from: Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System (Lawn & Patio)
The two most dangerous tools a ordinary person is likely to use are a chainsaw and a table saw. If you like all your fingers always use a pusher stick with a table saw. If you like being able to see always wear eye protection with either a chainsaw or a table saw.

And if you like to hear, wear hearing protection with a chainsaw. (Not so bad an idea with a table saw either, but not quite as important.)

I cannot speak from experience for the eye protection of this helmet, but it meets industry standards and should be good. Also, it covers the whole face. If you don't want to look like an extra from Gladiator or Braveheart this can be a good idea. At a minimum, I suggest goggles that have a strap. Regular safety glasses might get ripped off by a whipping chain, which is what you need protection from.

The sound protection of this helmet is the best I have ever used, substantially better than the hearing protectors from my local hardware store. I can hear people speaking to me with the protectors on, so long as they speak loudly. The muffs can be clicked up easily if you want to talk without taking the helmet off.

Also, if necessary you can wear glasses with this helmet with no problem.

I have a very large head and it fits me well. The inside straps are very adjustable, and I think it would fit almost anybody.

A well constructed safety helmet.

Love my Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System, January 20, 2012
By

This helmet is awesome. I need to have protective equipment that I enjoy wearing or I won't wear it. The ear protection is great. I like to listen to music while I work so I put my earbuds in and had to turn the music way down to be able to hear my chainsaw. The fit is the best I have ever had in a hard hat. The helmet stays on my head even as I stumble around through brush and branches. It is light weight and I don't get tired of it being on my head. I get a new hard hat at work every few years and have never had one I wanted to wear. With this helmet I feel protected and comfortable. I wish I would have purcahsed it long ago. As with anything you purchase from Amazon it will arrive at your door in a few days.

Works well, great sound protection, January 9, 2012
By
H. Feldman "Home Theater Nut" (Boston, MA)

This review is from: Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System (Lawn & Patio)
Pros:
Great ear muffs, which block saw noise well, click onto ears well and click away/swing away nicely
mesh face shield doesn't fog/scratch like a plastic one (for dust/fine particles you need goggles underneath)
helmet fits well, doesn't rock on my head when I swing the faceshield up and away
took 1 minute to assemble

Cons:
The adjustment on the strap should be a wheel rather than little pins, as weather variations make it a pain to put over a cap, etc
Rain guard? Really?
It should have mounts for a chin strap (I don't do that kind of cutting, but for those doing serious woodsman stuff, it's a must)
Should have some reflective strips on the helmet for emergency cutting at night

There was another review about it not working well when cutting over your head... You shouldn't be cutting over your head, as kickback will bring the blade right down on top of your head, and with your wrist cocked that way you are counting purely on the inertial lock, and you have no body weight/leverage to push back on the saw, and this ABS isn't stopping the blade.

Couldn't Assemble Visor, January 8, 2012
By
Philip Grant "Azer" (Ong's Hat, USA)

This review is from: Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System (Lawn & Patio)
Nice protective helmet system. Sould be 5 stars but the visor that was supposed to fit on the face screen wouldn't go on because the lugs and slots seemed poorly molded / incompatible. I ended up fastening the thing to the front of the helmet like horns so it looked like a Viking helmet...looks pretty cool that way.

Very solid and comfortable, December 29, 2011
By

This review is from: Husqvarna ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System (Lawn & Patio)
I have been using this helmet frequently for a couple months now and have no complaints. Everything is solid on it and it doesn't get uncomfortable wearing it all day. I spend a lot of time riding through the woods on a tractor and it has done a great job keeping the engine noise down and the mask has saved me from a few branches that snapped back. The only thing that could be possibly seen as negative is that the mask did collect some shavings that sprayed on me while chain sawing a walnut tree. It was a little damp so I will let it slide. All in all a great helmet for the price.

I hope I do not have to test the performance of this helmet system (have an accident) but it appears it is the standard components of other systems - ABS helmet, plastic/ABS mounting parts for the ear muffs and face shield ... if you are spending the money get a system which has better hearing protection and the head band knob adjustment - perhaps even a chin strap ... I have the knob adjustment on my turning face shield and it is convenient when I put on a hat or sweat gear.
