19 of 19 people found the following review helpful This saw is a champ! Just enough power for the 16" bar, August 9, 2011 By Wasatch Bill (Wasatch Mountains, Utah) I bought a smaller Husky, and had to exchange it for this one. It is the largest in Husquvarna's "Homeowner" series. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten a bigger saw; it bogs down easily if you lean on it when the bar is buried, but for limbing and logs up to 14" it works great, and I like the lighter weight. It fits in a medium sized backpack too. You can cut logs up to 32" if you don't rush. I keep it performing like a more powerful saw by buying a couple spare chains, and having them professionally sharpened. I have run this saw way harder than most homeowners. A tank of gas is good for a couple hours of cutting. I've probably been through 75 tanks of gas in 3 years. The toolless tensioner was not a factor when I bought it, but I love it now. I can easily adjust the chain tension while up in a tree, with one hand; try that with a wrench and screwdriver. This saw always starts. I have dropped it in a river twice. The first time I took it to the shop; they charged me $65 to "fix" it, and change out the gas. The second time, I pulled out the plug, dried it in the sun for awhile, put it in (even though I could still see water in the cylinder), and it started, coughed a bit, then blew out the water and ran great ever since. I run straight vegetable oil for bar oil, ever since the first tank of oil. Mostly canola oil, which says liquid in the cold, but peanut, soy or whatever works. Look on some of the threads on arboristsite dot com; there are pros who have been using straight veggie oil for bar oil, for years, and they are all for it; some say it works better than conventional bar oil, and its cheaper! It stays on the bar fine. You don't have to buy the expensive vegetable bar oil formulations, which are very popular in Europe, and recommended by the Forest Service. You basically leave all your bar oil in the forest, on the ground, in the sawdust; use veggie oil, its better for the environment, and better for you (you breathe some of the bar oil as mist). I have not had any problems with the oiler. The guys in the shop don't like the veggie oil at all; they grumble that I will wear out the bar or something, but there is no unusual wear, its the original bar, and I have used this saw hard. Honestly I never clean it either; I probably should. Great saw! Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful great saw, September 6, 2011 This review is from: Husqvarna 440E 16-Inch 40.9cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) This saw works like a champ. It starts everytime, if you follow the directions printed on the saw. i have cut up a bunch of trees around my house with it. My only problem is I am finding bigger and bigger trees to cut with the recent hurricane and I am debating about getting a bigger one. Was this review helpful to you? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Terriffic Machine, November 25, 2011 This review is from: Husqvarna 440E 16-Inch 40.9cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) I got this after the recent storm in CT and needed to clear some down trees in my yard. It worked great, minimal vibration and ran strong. Easy to manage. Good for medium-sized jobs with capacity to handle bigger projects within reason. Husqvarna has never let me down. Highly recommended!! Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 3 people found the following review helpful Great but with issues, November 10, 2011 By Paul F. Cheetham "Janie" (Shelton, CT) This review is from: Husqvarna 440E 16-Inch 40.9cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) this product works great. The only issue I had was that the item came with the cutting chain put in backwards, so the cutting power was non existent to start so much for their quality control!, and ready to use out of the box! On the verge of wanting to packing it up and send it back, due to its poor cutting performance, I managed to work out what the problem was! thanks to a little diagram on case of the unit. once I had determined this, I was able to correct the issue fairly easily no thanks to the manual which is a little long winded and involves a lot of moving back and forwards though the book, as they have chosen to put all the relevant pictures at the start of the book and so when reading a section, you are referred to the correct picture via a number in the passage. Once all this was finished however I feel a lot more confident with the machine and its maintenance and as reported it worked great. Was this review helpful to you?
