The new features like the chain adjust and the priming pump are really nice !! Great value and timely delivery. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment

Sanders (Bloomfield, CT) (VINE VOICE) This review is from: Husqvarna 460 Rancher 20-Inch 60.3cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) We had a 500 year storm where we lost power for a week and had tree limbs all over the place. One tree in particular dumped two big limbs on a neighbor's fence; so it was my first big project. The 460 Rancher did a super job and cut thought everything--not exactly like a hot knife through butter, but at a consistent speed. In one binding (my bad), the chain and bar were undamaged. It's well-made and very well designed. They suggest reversing the bar with every use and so getting the bar on and off has to be easy, and it is. Two bolts hold the bar and chain assembly, and a worm screw tightens up the chain; so it's easy to adjust and flip the bar over. The starting sequence looks to be somewhat long and convoluted but after a few times it makes sense, and the machine starts right up. A pressure release button is a big help. Like all chain saws, you need to keep an eye on a new chain because they can stretch fairly quickly. Because of the easy adjustment screw, it is simple to make such adjustments. On my old chain saw, bar oil spilled over everything, but on the Rancher, it has some kind of oil regulator that keeps the oil where it belongs. The 20" bar and the machine are not too heavy, but your arms will get a workout. It's the perfect compromise between a big professional level chain saw and one for home use. Period. The only issue I had was that the manual (and my intuition) failed to note that if the chain brake is applied, you need to release it before taking off the clutch cover, or the clutch cover tensioner may be messed up when the cover is re-applied causing the chain not to spin. Tried to fix it myself but couldnt get the spring back in right. Had to take it into a local dealer (finding one that was accurate based on the hv web site was a whole nother story). Once it was running, all was perfect hence the 5 stars. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
fantastic, February 9, 2012 This review is from: Husqvarna 460 Rancher 20-Inch 60.3cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) I am from Australia, be prepared to pay nearly double the price here for exact same procuct except for the sticker that says 'Rancher' on it. This is a very good saw that can handle most things. Just be careful of the safety bar when taking the clutch cover off..(make sure it is not engaged) Was this review helpful to you? 3 of 5 people found the following review helpful: Terrific saw but..., November 20, 2011 By Michael "Michael" (NJ) This review is from: Husqvarna 460 Rancher 20-Inch 60.3cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) This is a terrific saw, everything it is cracked up to be. As another reviewer said, it is worth the money and I got timely delivery to boot. It is relatively very quiet as saws go, VERY easy to start and seems nicely balanced. It has lots of nice features like the side-mounted chain tensioner, a hand-guard on the handle, a plastic guard to cover the chain when transporting the saw, and clear markings on the machine itself. However, it ships without chain oil, bar tip sprocket lubricant, or 2-stroke engine oil. It would be nice if those were included even at extra cost. Or at least warn you on purchase that you will need those items so you can include them in your order. As it was, after reading the manual, I learned I needed those items and had to run around trying to find them. And BTW even the local Husqvarna dealer did not carry any those 3 items under Husqvarna's brand name. Most importantly, whoever wrote the operators manual must have eyesight that would put an eagle to shame. What is it printed in, font 1? Come on Husqvarna, I know you're trying to save money but how expensive is paper! Please, use at least font 10. And while I am making suggestions, Husqvarna, it would be very handy if there was a way store the combination spanner in the handle. Anyway, these quibbles aside, this is an excellent chainsaw. Polk, Louisiana USA) This review is from: Husqvarna 460 Rancher 20-Inch 60.3cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant) (Lawn & Patio) ...For $469 and the power to drive a 24" bar through a large tree stump, it was worth it. For occasional home use like Landscaping, harvesting Fire Wood and just in time for Holloween and as long as the owner reads the Manual/Instruction book and gets familiar with the saw, it works great. There's a nice place in front of the muffler for some additional exhaust holes for more power and a cooler temperature. The High and Low Carburetor Jets are marked H and L for easy "anti-clockwise" adjustment of the H for more power and also a little cooler temp. I'm not that strong, but if I can hold it up in my hands and pull the cord a couple times to start it, it's real easy to start..... The only thing I don't like is the chain brake. It locked up when the cover was off and I couldn't figure it out. Nothing found in the book for what to do when it locks up when it's off. So I had to take the Chain Brake Spring out of to make it work right. A lot is written in the Owner's Manual about making sure the safety feature works right. It reads: "Serious Injury" could result. That's a Sugar Coated way to say the Bar/Saw can jump up in your face, cut you up and you could bleed to death..... Just tell the truth Husqvarna even if it's not "Politically Correct". Here's another tip not in your book; if you have to cut with the tip of the saw, lock your arm, pray to God and be ready to meet your fate. Only God can save our Souls after we die on Earth. That's the truth about this saw, facing the truth, and how to live when all else fails. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comments (5)
